5 Minute Guide to Web Hosting for Beginners

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Seasoned webmasters can easily setup a new website in minutes with one of their preferred hosting companies. Novice webmasters are often confused by the various web hosting plans – affordable web hosting, Cheap Web hosting, A SP Web Hosting, Budget Hosting, Dedicated Servers, eCommerce Hosting, FrontPage Web Hosting, Hosting With Templates, Managed Web Hosting, PHP Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Shared Hosting, Unix / Linux Hosting, Virtual Private Servers, Windows Hosting and Co-location Hosting.

There’re really a few things to look at while choosing a web hosting plan whether you run a hobby site, a small business site, or a high-traffic ecommerce site. In fact, all web hosting plans and terminologies can be classified in terms of cost, programming languages, operation systems, Web servers and functionality.

Cost – Cost of web hosting is the first thing that many small site owners are looking for. Most of web hosting plans cost less than $10 a month. Affordable web hosting, budget hosting or cheap web hosting plan often cost less than $5 per month.

Programming Languages – Whether you want to write your own scripts or install customized software packages, you want to choose the hosting plans that support the programming languages of your choice. The commonly used Web development languages include PHP, ASP, JSP and PERL. The hosting plans that support those programming languages are referred as PHP Web hosting, ASP Web hosting, JSP Web hosting or PERL Web hosting. Almost all hosting companies support PHP/MySQL, but only a fraction of them support ASP or JSP. For beginners, PHP/MySQL is the choice for programming language.

Operating Systems – Once you’ve picked up the programming language(s) for your Web development, you still have freedom to choose the operating system that hosts your Websites. Besides ASP which works only on Microsoft Windows, other programming languages, PHP, JSP and PERL, work on Windows, Unix and Linux. Hosting plans that support particular operating systems are referred as Window Hosting, Unix Hosting or Linux hosting.

Servers – Apache is the most widely supported Web server in Web hosting industry. One of nice things about Apache server is the ability of mod_rewrite to make dynamic URL look like static URL or SEO-friendly among other things. ASP works only on Mirosoft Internet Information Server or IIS server. Weblogic or Websphere is needed for JSP hosting.

Performance – When webmasters are talking about Web servers, they’re most interested in the server performance – Managed Web Hosting, Shared Hosting, Dedicated Servers, or Virtual Private Servers (VPS). Shared hosting is the cheapest plan, and you can host as many sites as you like with a Reseller Hosting option. VPS costs around $50 a month, and Dedicated Server plan will cost from $50 – $100 or more a month dependent on storage space and bandwidth of the hosting plan. A shared hosting is good enough for most of websites. If your website serves heavy audio/video files, or needs to frequently install customized software package, you’ll need a dedicated server. For example, a company that sells Computer Based Training (CBT) software online upgraded its hosting plan from a shared hosting to a dedicated hosting plan in the first 6 months of online operation as the company started to use video/audio support to boost online sales.

Online Transaction Support – Websites that accept payment online require support of secure connection (HTTPS) and digital certification to conduct online transaction safely. The alternative of having your own online merchant account is to use a third party payment processor for payment process. Integration of paypal shopping cart only takes about a few minutes without any knowledge of programming skills.

After all, choosing a web hosting plan that works for you isn’t that complex, even for the beginners.

Sushi Wonder

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

International ingredients and cuisine has invaded this country over the last couple of decades in this country. And it was about a decade ago that I was introduced to a Japanese “style of cooking”, because you cannot call it a meal, since you can pretty much use all types of fish and just about all seafood. Sushi, my mouth is watering to even think about it. I wonder whom the genius was that came up with making that first roll of sushi. If you take a look at a simple roll, it is quite complicated there are multiple ingredients and simply making it is an art. Temperature and equipment are key. Quality of rice, and seafood vital. If your seafood is not fresh enough, or the rice is not cooked to “sushi standards”. Seaweed must be moist and all the other ingredients must be impeccably cut or chopped.

If you have not been trained to make it I suggest that you maybe take a couple of lessons, or buy a couple of books since this could be easily not performed well. If you are not into cooking sushi has really gotten really easy to find in just about each corner of a metropolitan city. So really take your time, ask to see how fresh the food is and make sure you incorporate the most important ingredients, wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce. If you are watching your line, brown rice sushi is definitely becoming popular so make sure you look out for this kind as well, and right after take the Acceletrim pills to keep you looking trim.

Get identified under your skin!

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

There are movies that entertain you, frighten you, and enlighten you. There are movies that trigger your brain of a possible invention that might take shape. This happens every time you watch a Science-fiction movie you wonder, THIS is something that can be explored! There have been movies in the past that have shown the possibilities of planting a gadget inside a human to track his/her daily activities. If that idea has already triggered you of a possible invention, and you are on the edge of dismissing that as a distant dream, think again! You could be just on your way to getting yourself identified by surgically implanting yourself with a rice-grain sized chip under your skin thanks to a VeriChip.

Now, whats a VeriChip?

Applied Digital Solutions Inc, a company into RFID applications, end-to-end food safety systems, GPS/Satellite communications, and telecomm and security infrastructure, has come up with a unique solution called the VeriChip. This chip is a subdermal RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) device that can be used in a variety of security, financial, emergency identification and other applications. About the size of a grain of rice, each VeriChip product contains a unique verification number. When this chip senses one of Verichip’s proprietary scanners, it gets activated and transmits a unique ID number to the scanner. If the number matches an ID number in a database, the person with the chip under his or her skin can enter a secured room, complete a financial transaction, get his medical records verified, etc.

According to Applied Digital, this technology has been around for a while. Digital Angel, a sister concern of Applied Digital has been selling these identification chips for about 15 years now. but most of them have until now been used only for identifying animals like household pets and livestock. The U.S. Department of Energy has also been using this technology to monitor salmon migration. Whats more these chips can last for a whooping 20 years!

So why use it on humans?

Applied Digital says that the idea for using these chips to identify humans came after the horrifying incidents of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. While watching the post disaster coverage on TV, Richard Seelig, Vice President of medical applications at Applied Digital, saw how firemen were writing their badge numbers on their arm with pen so that they could be identified in the event of a disaster. He then inserted one of these chips under his skin and tested their viability and was quite amazed at how perfectly they performed. As of now, about 9,000 VeriChips have been sold, of which about 1,500 have been inserted into humans. This number will soon increase, since even Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared VeriChip for medical applications in the United States. However FDA hasnt yet cleared this device for usage in security, financial, personal identification and safety applications. It might not be long when these chips make their way into other parts of the world.

Well, speaking of other parts of the world, the Mexican Police Department has already chipped all of their personnel. The Italian Ministry of Health has also started a six-month trial of these chips for hospitals. The Baja Beach Club in Spain has also used them as electronic wallets to buy drinks and pay for usage of other facilities at their club. Most sales of these chips have taken place outside the US in Russia, Switzerland, Venezuela and Colombia.

How do you get it under your skin?

An authorized medical practitioner or surgeon can implant this 11-millimeter RFID chip in the fatty tissue below your right tricep. This chipping procedure lasts just a few minutes and involves the use of only a local anesthetic followed by quick, painless insertion of the VeriChip. Once its inserted under your skin, not even you can tell whether you have an RFID chip implanted there. So where does the chip get its energy? Well, you dont have to worry about that. This chip is dormant most of the time and wakes up only when you pass your skin over an external proprietary scanner. When you do this, a small amount of radio frequency energy passes through the skin energizing the chip. The chip then emits a radio frequency signal containing the verification number. This number is then deciphered by the scanner and transmitted to a secure data storage site accessed by authorized personnel via telephone or Internet. “It is used instead of other biometric applications such as fingerprints, says Angela Fulcher, Vice President Marketing and Sales, VeriChip Corporation. Implanting these chips would cost about $150 – $200 per person.

What more can you do with it?

The VeriChip can be used for many applications than just verifying medical records. In this fast changing world everything is technology enhanced, and places that spell technology also invite unethical and illegal activities such as counterfeiting, identity theft, unauthorized access, etc. The VeriChip can be used for personal identity verification so the chip could contain your biometric information and the scanners would read your chip and grant access to a special area that only you are supposed to access. Other applications could include but are not limited to controlling access to Intellectual Property, managing and tracking physical and intellectual assets, providing physical access to control solutions, enabling innovative time and attendance systems, providing automated data collection and monitoring platforms and much more. The chip with GPS (Global Positioning System) capabilities could also be implanted into children, so that it becomes easier for the Police Department to trace them out, in events of kidnapping.

VeriChip could also be used to find lost pets or keep track of endangered wildlife, as well as find lost or stolen property. It could also be used as a means for security such as, airport security, authorization for access to government buildings, laboratories, correctional facilities and the like. Convicted criminals or possible terrorists could also be tracked with this technology and prevent future attacks on time.

Is anything wrong with it?

While VeriChip seems to have no adverse side effects to its wearer, there are quite a few concerns over its usage pattern. One of the biggest disadvantages is the invasion of privacy of the user. People wouldnt really like scanners scanning them for personal information wherever they go or satellites tracking them across the globe. One of the major concerns could be about third parties gaining information on the Internet through either hacking or by selling sensitive data to unknown people. You might use these chips to safeguard your children from kidnappers, but there are possibilities of these chips being surgically removed and being disabled by kidnappers. There is also the possibilitiy that convicted criminals could remove the chips so authorities would be unable to track them. Most people fear an invasion of privacy as the greatest fault of implanting microchips. A recent CNN poll said that about 76% of Americans said they would not want a device like VeriChip implanted on their children, while 24% suggested they would.

While the amount of securities this chip might offer is overwhelming, at the same time the device seems weighed down by numerous concerns including invasion of privacy. Only time will tell whether this invention takes off or just bites the dust.

Feel the Lethargy and Do It Anyway

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Yuck, it’s tax time again. One of these days, you’ll get your hands on the documents you need and you’ll fill out your return – on time this year! But not right now. That’s too much hassle.

You’ve been meaning to start that running program, but not tonight – you’re beat.

You’re at work and you’re sneak-surfing on the internet. Whenever anyone passes by, you alt-tab quickly back to a bogus spreadsheet. You know you need to get back to work and stop loafing, but you just can’t get focused.

Do any of these scenarios sound like you? Maybe it’s not taxes, exercise, and work that you’re putting off – maybe it’s a heart-to-heart conversation with your daughter, or maybe it’s cleaning out the junk drawer in the kitchen. Maybe it’s folding a basket of laundry. Clipping your toenails. Whatever it is, you just can’t seem to get motivated to do anything!

Sometimes it isn’t fear of failure that holds us back. Sometimes it’s just plain old lethargy! And if that’s the case, you probably won’t finish reading this article, because when you’re feeling lethargic, the last thing you want is to be motivated!

I don’t know about you, but often when I’m feeling lethargic but otherwise perfectly healthy, I have conflicting voices running in my head. One voice wants me to snap out of it and get things done that I promised myself or others would get done. The other voice whimpers, “Leave me alone.”

Here are two techniques that I use to snap myself out it and get moving on things again:

1. Movement creates movement. Once you make any move at all, you’ve begun creating momentum, so it’s easier to keep moving. Sometimes it seems to require the combined forces of the entire Universe just to launch that first little bit of movement. Sometimes you have to bargain ruthlessly with yourself. I promise myself some great reward for small effort. It’s ridiculous. “Just open the folder on the computer that has the report I need to work on. Then click on the report and it will open. THEN I can have a candy bar.” Once the report is open and I’m chomping on my candy bar, it’s easy to jump right in and get to work on it.

If you’re putting off shoveling the snow, promise yourself a reward for getting your coat, boot, hat and mittens on. If you’re putting off starting that running program, promise yourself a reward for setting your running clothes & running shoes out and for setting your alarm a half hour earlier. You get the idea. Just do what you need to do to get moving.

2. Placate the child. I adapted this from The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play by Neil Fiore. It’s the little child in you that doesn’t want to do what you, the adult, is asking yourself to do. Maybe the child is whining that you never let it have any fun, or it’s afraid that once you start working, it will be all work and no play, so the child reasons it’s best to just not start.

Prevailing wisdom is that you need to reward yourself AFTER a task has been completed, which is the theory behind the first strategy. This strategy is the other way around. Whatever it is that you’re doing that you don’t want to give up, negotiate a little more of it in exchange for starting whatever it is you’re putting off. For instance, if you’re watching TV but you need to shovel the walk, promise yourself that you can watch to the end of JUST THIS program. Or finish the chapter in the book you’re reading, or have that snack you’re fantasizing about. Or tell yourself you can surf on line for 10 more minutes, and then it’s back to work. Then make sure you do it!

If your lethargy is chronic or persistent or is accompanied by other symptoms, consider seeing a doctor. At the very least, consider some lifestyle changes, such as getting more sleep, getting more exercise, and improving your eating habits.

I have a little saying that I use on myself. “The less you feel like it, the more you need it.” Fit people often feel like exercising, but out-of-shape people rarely do. People who eat healthy diets often have a hankering for raw vegetables, but people who live on a diet of junk rarely do. Highly productive workers do take breaks, but they don’t let them interfere with their productivity – they take a short break, and then they get on with their work. And so on.

Are you putting something off right now because you just don’t feel like it? Before you click on another link, before you visit another site, or before you read another article, pick one of the two strategies and put them to work. Maybe you’ll even come to my website and email me to tell me if it worked or not! (Don’t do that until AFTER you’ve knocked that thing off your to do list, though!)

Version 2.4 Provides Unprecedented Protection Against SSL Attacks While Dynamically Managing Bandwidth to Block Threats to the Network

Radware (NASDAQ; RDWR) the leading provider of Intelligent Application Switching solutions ensuring the end-to-end availability, performance and security of networked applications today announced the expansion of its DefensePro product line. With the unveiling of DefensePro version 2.4, Radware now protects against SSL-based attacks, ensuring that hackers – many of whom have learned to exploit SSL tunnels to evade network intrusion prevention measures – can no longer exploit this unprotected pathway to launch DoS/DDoS attacks.

Intercepting over 1,500 malicious signatures, hidden worms and viruses, DefensePro 2.4 blocks application attacks at an unmatched speed of 3-Gigabits/Sec. Leveraging years of experience with SSL acceleration and SSL sniffing, Radware integrated its SSL sniffing capabilities with DefensePro, scanning encrypted traffic and blocking attacks. Handling up to 15,000 SSL transactions per second, the Radware solution offers remarkable scalability of SSL protection for seamless service volume growth.

“SSL Encryption is an important security tool, but it can also be used as an evasion technique. Attacks hidden within an SSL tunnel can evade even the strictest intrusion prevention policies and technologies,” said Charles Kolodgy, research director of Security Products at IDC. “As a result, enterprises and carriers must protect applications with pro-active security systems that can discover and prevent SSL attacks by being able to peer into the encrypted traffic.”

DefensePro isolates attacks by dynamically managing bandwidth to stop propagation across users and resources while ensuring the complete continuity and performance of all secure traffic to proactively control impact and limit damage.

DefensePro’s port density enables high capacity scanning across multiple network segments for increased protection against attacks originating from both inside and outside the network. By integrating Denial of Service protection with its IPS capabilities, DefensePro delivers the security and performance that high capacity environments require.

“Increasing sophistication among hackers has created an environment where many organizations are hard-pressed to stay one step ahead of they latest worm, exploit or BotNet,” said Assaf Ronen, VP R&D, Radware. “Our mission has always been to ensure the security, performance and reliability of networked applications and we realize that point IPS solutions aren’t enough. Now, with SSL protection in DefensePro 2.4, organizations worldwide can stem the tide of ever evolving information security threats.”

My Experiences with RG 146

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

2 years ago, I was just a housewife. My life was constantly cycling over routine tasks and predictable events and I did not feel that I was going to get anywhere. I needed something new and productive to happen to me and that’s when I came across the idea of being a para planner. A friend of mine introduced this concept to me 2 years ago and everything changed since then.
When I became a para planner, not only has it given me the enhancement I needed for my career, it also gave me the satisfaction because of the fact that I have done something for my fellowmen to help them realize their financial dreams and goals. I took the prerequisite course to get the RG 146 in the form of the Diploma of Financial Planning that I got after the course. And to think it was just for 8 days that I learned a lot about the financial sector. This RG 146 is required by the ASIC or Australian Securities and Investment Commission and the course is basically delivered by registered educational providers in Australia.
Ever since I have been a certified and qualified financial adviser, communicating and working with my clients have been quite satisfying and fulfilling. Just by getting the RG 146 Diploma of Financial Planning, my entire life changed for the better.

Just remember that the answers of leaflet distributoin aren’t guaranteed. A poorly planned or targeted campaign will be a waste of hard earned cash

There are a list of several methods in which leaflet distribution has been used in a policy-making way. Several of these causes are as follows. One of the most popular practices of booklet distribution is to provide people with info to counter information that has been delivered by the opponent. The leaflets can also be utilised to threaten individuals with an attack. This is particularly likely in differences of opinion in which armies can inform opposition troops that they will invade if no follow up action is taken. The leaflets in war situations are often used to encourage the opposition to surrender and if how to go about surrendering without facilitating a retaliation.

If you have made up your mind that a leaflet distribution will be a right form of promoting in order to bring in some much required potential patronage, then you need to set about the chore of choosing the best company to carry out the promotion for you.

If you are just thinking of a small-scale promotion in the local area, it may be prudent to pick out a smaller local company who just manage the smaller promotions in one area. They are quite likely to be cost effective, and have lower lead times. Accountability may be a problem if things do not go according to plan, so this requires to be considered against the quantity of financial outlay.
