Alternative Ways to Find a Job in 2009
We’re all tired of hearing about the liquidity crisis, especially if you’re one of the jobless. You can stop reading the newspapers, but you can’t escape the actuality that the UK is in a recession and it will be with us for a good few years yet.
Even so, there are always means to help get yourself out of this recession. The orthodox means of looking for work are not so good when you have 80 other people trying for the same job position. Reading the local newspaper, browsing the local unemployment office, etc – you’re just part of the large herd looking for work in this uninventive way.
Much more effective is to be proactive in areas your competitors (others seeking jobs) are in lesser numbers. Nowadays a lot of firms publish job vacancies on their company website, so use Google and type in keywords to identify local firms. Use a variety of key words between locale only e.g. jobs in Tamworth, Staffs, UK, and location and profession e.g. sales jobs in Tamworth Staffordshire.
One more idea is to work for yourself – become self-employed. One thing we’ve learnt over the last year or so is that large firms can go broke overnight. Being self-employed puts destiny in your own hands, which is something no employee of a company can ever say they have. The main thing is you choose the type of job you enjoy as you must motivate yourself everyday.
